Lake Tahoe, in acacia hardwood.

Our own rendition of the lake — hand-drawn, not traced from a map — cut and finished one board at a time in our shop in Incline Village. A juice groove follows the shoreline the whole way around, leaving the full center open for real knife work. Solid brass feet lift it off the counter so it won't slide and the underside can breathe.

22" × 13" × 1½". Five pounds of solid acacia.

Our take on the lake

The silhouette is an artist's rendition of Lake Tahoe, not a survey-accurate outline. We drew it to read as Tahoe the moment you see it — the Emerald Bay notch, the long west shore, the tapered south end — while still working as a board you can actually put food on. Every one is cut, shaped, and sanded by hand, so no two edges are identical.

Built to be used

  • Solid acacia, 1½" thick. Dense, tight-grained, and naturally water-resistant — one of the better hardwoods you can put a knife to.
  • Juice groove follows the shoreline. Catches carving juices and cheese oils instead of your counter, without eating into the usable cutting surface.
  • Solid brass feet with rubber O-rings. Non-slip on granite or quartz, and the raised profile lets air move underneath so the board dries evenly instead of trapping moisture.
  • Food-safe oil and wax finish. No resin, no lacquer, no plastic — just wood you can cut on and re-oil for years.
  • Big enough to work on. 22 × 13 inches handles a whole chicken, and it's handsome enough to carry straight to the table.

Cut on it — with eyes open

This is a real cutting board, not décor. Use a knife on it.

That said, wood is wood. Heavy daily chopping will leave marks, and over time the surface will scar the way any well-used board does. Regular oiling keeps it looking good for years. If you're hard on it and want it back to new, a light sanding and a fresh coat of oil brings it right back — it's a board that can be refinished, not replaced.

If you'd rather it stay pristine, use it for serving and cheese and keep a workhorse board for breaking down proteins.

Care

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap. Never put it in the dishwasher and don't let it soak. Dry it standing on edge or resting on its brass feet so both faces breathe. Re-oil about once a month, or whenever the wood starts looking dry and pale. If the surface gets heavily scored over the years, sand it lightly and re-oil — it'll look new again.

Questions

Can I actually cut on this, or is it just for serving?

Cut on it. It's solid acacia with a food-safe oil finish and no resin anywhere. Like any wood board, heavy daily use will leave knife marks over time — but it sands and re-oils back to new, so it's a board you refinish rather than replace.

Is acacia good for a cutting board?

Yes. Acacia is a dense hardwood with tight grain and natural water resistance. It's harder than bamboo, far gentler on knife edges than glass or stone, and it takes an oil finish beautifully.

Is this an exact map of Lake Tahoe?

It's our artist's rendition — hand-drawn to capture the lake's character rather than survey-accurate coastline. It reads as Tahoe instantly, which is what matters when it's sitting on your counter.

What are the brass feet for?

Two things: they keep the board from sliding on a stone countertop, and they lift it so air reaches the underside. Boards that sit flat in their own moisture are boards that warp.

How big is it?

22 inches long, 13 inches wide, 1½ inches thick, and about 5 pounds — large enough to work on, and substantial enough to serve from.

How do I take care of it?

Hand wash, dry it right away, and re-oil monthly. No dishwasher, no soaking.

Are these actually made in Lake Tahoe?

Yes — cut, shaped, and finished by hand in our shop in Incline Village, Nevada, on the north shore of the lake.
