Wooden American flags finished with Shou Sugi Ban, the Japanese technique of charring the surface to bring up the grain and add depth, then sealed under high-gloss epoxy. The texture comes from burning the wood, not from a stain sprayed over it.
Made one at a time in our shop in Incline Village, Nevada.
Questions
What is Shou Sugi Ban?
A traditional Japanese method of charring wood. Burning the surface hardens it and lifts the grain, so the pattern you see is the wood's own structure rather than applied color.
Can it go outside?
These are finished for indoor display. Email us before hanging one outdoors.
Can you make a custom size?
Often, yes. Email us with the wall you are filling.
